Animal Services
Animal Services
Our animals are all Pet of the Week, since they are all looking to be Adopted.

The Levy County Animal Services (LCAS) is an Animal Shelter that takes in unwanted or stray pets. We are by no means a boarding facility for the general public. Animals that are housed here are dogs or cats that are owner released, people drop off, or strays. The policy for this facility is to hold dogs or cats that are dropped off or picked up as a stray for three to five working days. This gives the pet’s owner time to re-claim their pet. After which time the animal may be adopted, rescued or destroyed humanely. We encourage all animal owners to identify your pets with the owners name and telephone number, rabies tag, or implanted microchip. We use an Avid Scanner for identifying lost pets with microchips, so if found we can reunite pet and owner.

Adopting a Friend
All Animals that are adopted or rescued from the Levy County Animal Services are required by Florida Law to be Spay/Neutered and also have a rabies vaccination. To adopt a male dog from the shelter the fee is $40.00, which covers neutering, rabies vaccination (if age appropriate) and microchipping. To adopt a female dog from the shelter the fee is $55.00, which covers spaying, rabies vaccination (if age appropriate) and microchipping. To adopt a male cat from the shelter the fee is $25.00, which covers neutering,  rabies vaccination (if age appropriate) and microchipping.  To adopt a female cat from the shelter the fee is $40.00, which covers spaying, rabies vaccination (if age appropriate) and microchipping. Adoptions can be done Monday thru Friday between 8:00 am & 4:00 pm. We encourage people to get here by 3:30 pm to give us time to complete the required paperwork. All adoptions are done on a first come basis. A current list of adoptable dogs and cats can be found at our website by clicking the link below.

All transactions such as adoption, impounding, etc. are cash payment only – no checks or cards.

Rescue Organizations Welcomed
We welcome rescue organizations to assist us with the placement of the healthy adoptable pets.  The requirements are described in our Placement Animal Agreement, which can be downloaded from our website clicking the link above or call our office for a copy. Levy County Animal Services recognizes the benefit of networking with other protection agencies and individuals participating in breed-specific re-homing of companion animals.
